As a couple approaching so–called retirement age, we came to the realization that retirement was a great place to visit, but who in their right mind would want to live there? And so we skipped the Sunbelt retirement and set out to start a new chapter in our lives, which involved the creation of a website (2young2retire.com) and the writing of this book to encourage others to reorganize their thinking about later life priorities. We wanted to be both inspirational and realistic. In the words of Nelson Mandela, "There is no passion to be found in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living."
Too Young to Retire: 101 Ways to Start the Rest of Your Life is a book that addresses practical issues such as money, work, community service and wellness, and provides extensive resources for getting started and formulating ideas. Each chapter also includes a "try this" section: simple and doable ideas for making small life changes toward bigger goals. Our most popular chapter, "101 Opportunities for the Open Minded"; is intended to trigger the entrepreneurial imagination.
We believe that the ultimate incentive for staying engaged and active throughout the life span is that it's good for our health. As it turns out, this is also good for society.
